Inspiration for Floral Abstractions
My grandmother was a gardener, and my mother a gardener with a bright green thumb, so its in my genes. I love gardens, especially ones with great design and flowers, but didn't want to paint a traditional floral or landscape, so the abstraction, or the essence of a garden seemed a great blend. It gives me a chance to experiment with color, shape and texture to express the beauty of nature. Often I paint these in my back yard from oil pastel sketches from a local community garden. Sitting and meditating at other's efforts and the beauty of their designs while I'm very loosely sketching is very inspirational.
