I joined a print studio and wanted to really focus on one subject. Butterflies can be trite, yet there is so much significance due to their metamorphosis from the homely caterpillar to the mummy like cocoon to the fully adult form of the butterfly. There is little question as to why they have been adapted by the Christian faith as the image of death and rebirth. I wanted to experiment with the form and colors while thinking about the spiritual implications.
The mono prints are all on archival paper. Several of these are encaustic (pigmented beeswax) paintings on hard board.
